Lisbeth

Lisbeth loves flowers and always wanted to open a small business. “The beauty of a flower and the endless amount of types are just like one's dreams and goals.” And there was the germ of an idea that became a reality. She not only created beautiful bouquets — ramo buchones, as she called it in Spanish — but also learned about marketing, branding, and merchandising. With Valentine’s Day coming up and 26 orders to fill, she also learned to reach out for help, creating a successful family operation. Her mom cleaned the roses and Lisbeth and her dad found wholesalers and made deliveries. “It takes many farmers to plant a field. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for my parents,” she said.

The Manhattan Early College School for Advertising affords students the opportunity to attend college at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) while completing high school. When Lisbeth goes off to college, she will transfer 27 college credits — an extraordinary accomplishment.

“New environments are exciting, but I’m also nervous about making new connections, finding the right resources, and being challenged,” Lisbeth says about college. “But I’m a very organized person, so I think I’ll do well,” she adds.

Her college counselor says, “Lisbeth is such a positive light in our school. She is so encouraging, enthusiastic, and hardworking. When she sets a goal, there is nothing that can stop her from persevering and accomplishing what she has set

her mind to. The goal she is most focused on is being the first in her family to graduate from college.”

Thank you to Ms. Kern, my advisor, global history and English teacher, all in one. She has really seen me grow both academically and in general. She’s been a great inspiration and role model because she is young and already graduated with her master’s degree. These four years she’s been there to guide me and further push me to accomplish my goals.
