Jasiah sought advice from his mom, which he frequently does about big decisions. She advise to pick a college that has personality, with colorful, diverse people who are interesting. It was fitting guidance for her son, who brings personality to everything he does and is driven by a deep curiosity to explore the mysteries of science and life. Jasiah adds, “My mom is African American, and my dad is three different races. In varied cultures at college, there is much I can learn about myself.”
Jasiah loves biology. “With a strong understanding of biology, you have a strong understanding of life itself. I’ve spent hours reading about what humans and other species do to survive.” Yet he has chosen to major in chemistry. “The Periodic Table of Elements is simpler. I’m fascinated that the smallest proton or neutron can change into something else.”
He has also grappled with issues of his own fears and achievements. When his SAT test scores were not to his liking, he worried about opportunities to retake them.
When he finally did, he was instantly relieved. “I realized that maybe there was nothing to fear in the first place. It gave me confidence.” It was a life lesson of conquering anxieties.
His social studies teacher says Jasiah exhibits a kind of quiet leadership. He has a unique ability to comprehend complex concepts quickly and always asks questions that show a deep level of thought.
And oh those questions! “I’m ready for studying. I’m ready for what happens next.” What answers will he find?
