Scholarship Plus provides a substantial four-year scholarship for each student PLUS a number of ongoing support strategies, including carefully matched mentorships, paid summer internships, advising, and more.
Our distinctive approach has helped 98% of our scholars graduate college.
Increase your impact by making your donation a recurring monthly donation.
Join a "Pod" (giving circle): $1,000 - $5,000 (annually for 4 years) Together up to 10 individuals support a single scholar through college. Pod members commit to an annual donation ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 annually for four years. We form pods from individual givers, however, you may also bring in family or friends to create your own pod. As one pod leader shared, "The pods offer a rare opportunity to collaborate closely with friends in an enterprise that is uniquely hopeful." Pod members will receive updates from the student they are supporting.
Joining a pod is one of the very most tangible ways to feel your impact on a scholar's future.
Provide a full scholarship for a scholar: $10,000 (annually for 4 years) This generous donation will cover a substantial annual college scholarship to support a scholar through their studies to graduation day. In addition to their scholarship, it includes all the extras of our PLUS: ongoing support strategies, including carefully matched mentorships, paid summer internships, advising, and more. This is a very individualized opportunity to support an underserved college student, and is one of the most fulfilling ways to impact this great need.
Soma Golden Behr co-founded Scholarship Plus after a long and celebrated career at The New York Times, where she was a Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and editor. When funding cuts ended a college scholarship program she led at The Times, Soma responded by launching Scholarship Plus — a new model built on continued financial and personal support for first-generation college students in New York City. Fiercely intelligent, warm, and unafraid to challenge the status quo, Soma was both a brilliant thinker and a deeply compassionate leader. Her vision helped shape the futures of nearly 300 scholars. We continue this work in her memory, with the same passion, purpose, and belief in the power of young people’s voices. Donations to this fund can be made above and "in honor of Soma Golden Behr".
We honor the life and legacy of Soléi Spears — a poet, student leader, and fierce advocate for justice. A Political Science major at Baruch College and President-elect of the CUNY Black Student Union, Soléi’s future was bright before her life was tragically cut short. Each year, in partnership with Valerie Irick Rainford of Elloree Talent Strategies, we award a scholarship to a first-generation student who shares Soléi’s passion for equity and community. Your gift helps us continue her legacy by empowering future leaders to follow in her footsteps. Donations to this fund can be made above and "in honor of Soléi Spears".
The scholarship named after Marshall Goldberg, a stalwart ambassador of Scholarship Plus and an incredible advocate for scholars, will support a student through college annually. Like the fund's namesake, the Marshall Goldberg Scholar will demonstrate a great desire to give back to their community. Donations to this fund can be made above and "in honor of Marshall Goldberg".
